in concert: fitz and the tantrums

Fitz and the Tantrums is a new music discovery but I was having a bad day at work, saw there was a local concert, and bought a ticket.

First up was Big Data, the opening act. I’m only familiar with “Dangerous” but was quite impressed. I’ve been really enjoying the trend of female co-lead singers in bands. Brings some diversity. Their set opened with “the NSA” asking people to text, Instagram, tweet, etc. and it broke in a few times thanking specific people. I only wish the sound was better but their songs were good and they did a cover of Hall & Oates’ “Private Eyes”.

Then, Fitz and the Tantrums came out. I’m only really familiar with their latest CD, “More Than Just A Dream” (with the exception of “MoneyGrabber”) and they mostly played from that which was great. It was a really fun show and the band loves to dance. I was even more impressed with Noelle Scaggs’ voice in person. She is a true powerhouse. I just really enjoy their music and hearing it live was nice. I also loved their cover of The Eurythmics’ “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)”.

All in all, if you ever have the opportunity to see Fitz and the Tantrums, take it. Their shows are a blast.
