ABC’s newest musical comedy. I have been psyched for this for months.
Galavant (Joshua Sasse) is a knight whose love, Madalena (Mallory Jansen), has left him for the evil King Richard (Timothy Omundson). He is recruited by Princess Isabella Maria Lucia Elizabetta of Valencia (Karen David) to save her family from King Richard. And all of this is told through song.
As a huge fan of The Princess Bride, Monty Python, Mel Brooks’ parodies, and of course, Disney movies, it shouldn’t be shocking that I loved every second of this. I only watched the first episode (the show is actually only a half hour and ABC is airing two at once) so I’m actually not the biggest fan of the character of Galavant yet? I mean, he’s good-looking and I get why he is currently just a drunk but I got more of a feel for the other characters rather than him. Like King Richard, who is played with excellence by one of my all-time faves, Omundson. The songs by Alan Menken and Glenn Slater are fantastic and the sets are beautiful. I can’t wait to see more.
