the sword of rhiannon by leigh brackett

Another Sword & Laser pick.Matthew Carse works as a thief in the Martian city of Jekkara. He tries to sell a sword that once belonged to an ancient Martian who was cursed after sharing knowledge with another race. Carse is sent back in time and placed in the midst of a war between the Sea-Kings and the Empire of Sark.

I liked it. It reminded me of the first John Carter novel and not just because both take place on Mars. It had great characters, was easy to read, and a decent amount of action and romance. What I loved best though was that this book was written in the 40s and by a woman. It’s hard to find sci-fi by women and I’m glad this wasn’t disappointing. I look forward to checking out more of her work.
