Back to watching old films! Yay!
In 1939 Poland, a group of actors are trying to put on a comedy about the Nazis but instead do Hamlet. During the show, actress Maria Tura (Carole Lombard) plans a rendezvous with a young pilot, Stanislav Sobinski (Robert Stack), while her husband Joseph (Jack Benny) is on stage. World War II then breaks out and the Turas are somehow thrown into the world of espionage.
Really funny! Everything was done so cleverly; a well-done satire. Lombard was such a great comedic actress, it’s a shame she died so young. And this was my first time seeing Benny. He was funny but mostly I was distracted by the fact that the late Phil Hartman looked like him. If you like seeing some real-life action in your comedies, this one is worth a look.
